By RYAN BURNS, Associated Press Lowes is selling ads for low-cost products including appliances, LED lights and refrigerators that will be available online in the U.S. and Canada this week.
The ads are part of an effort by Lowes to expand its reach with more online sales and to reach consumers who don’t have access to its traditional retail outlets, a spokeswoman said.
The ad campaign, which starts this week, features a man and woman playing with a refrigerator, and an orange doorbell, as the man opens the door and a voice-over says, “Home delivery now available in your neighborhood.”
Lowes, which has more than $1 billion in annual revenue, has been looking to broaden its reach to people who don’s have access, particularly women, with a new advertising campaign for the Lowes Energy Cooler, which costs about $50 to $100 less than its comparable model.
The energy coolers, which are also called “energy-efficient” refrigerators, have been a hot item among homebuyers in recent months.
A report from Bernstein Research found that the number of women with low household incomes buying energy-efficient products jumped by 15 percent between July and September, to more than 6 million.
Lowes was also trying to expand into other demographics, with ads in the New York Times for its new appliances.
Lows also launched a television ad in October that showed a man playing with an LED light and a doorbell.

The company has been trying to get consumers to spend more on its products, which include a low-tech refrigerator and an LED refrigerator.
The Energy Cools are low-carbon appliances that are environmentally friendly.
They have a low heat-and-bacteria load and have been available in stores for years.
Lowess is also trying the Lowemperatures new “Energy Comfort” refrigerator.
The refrigerator is made from an aluminum frame, is dishwasher-safe and has an LED-backlit light.

The appliance is an LED, with an orange exterior, that lights up when it’s turned on and automatically shuts off when it isn’t.
It is also energy- and water-efficient.
Low prices, low shipping costs, and low shipping times make the Lowers Energy Cooling a “revolutionary” product, Lowes spokeswoman Kristin Peebles said in a statement.
“The Lowes logo was originally designed for the energy-saver lifestyle, but now we’re creating an appliance that can save you money, too,” she said.
Low costs for the products are on par with the cost of comparable appliances, she added.
The advertisements come as the Lowesses Energy Cooled refrigerator is a hot product, with more than 3 million units sold in the past 12 months, up from 2.3 million in the previous 12 months.
Low-priced appliances like the EnergyCoolers can save homeowners money on their heating bills.
They are also designed to be environmentally friendly, using less energy and have an automatic shut-off feature, meaning they are less likely to catch on fire.
They’re also available in less-expensive models, such as the low-price Lowes Water Cooler.
Lowe recently launched its Energy Comfort refrigerators in more than 200 stores.
The appliances are low energy-and water-consuming, but offer energy-efficiency features like an LED backlight, Peeples said.
“Energy comfort is one of the hottest topics in the home energy industry,” she added, “and we are pleased to be at the forefront of a new way to serve this consumer base.”
